"The St. Sebastian series is a long-running exploration of gender-specific incidents of martyrdom and their disruptive intersection with the normative forms and symbols of everyday culture. Originally inspired by feminist Kate Millett’s semi-fictional account of the brutal 1965 torture-murder of Indianapolis teenager Sylvia Likens entitled The Basement: Meditations on a Human Sacrifice, the series has included a zine, paintings, sound sculptures (including St. Sebastian Doubting Thomas Singing Nun), performances, and installations."
