The Walking Gallery

The Walking Art Gallery (detail)
"Outdoor Sites" Ace Art Inc., July 1990

"For 2 hours each day for three weeks, I would dress as The Walking Art Gallery in an overcoat and tophat covered in thrift store paintings, Big Eye art, sentimental religious reproductions, string art, pastoral landscape TV trays, commemorative dishware, and similar populist visual art genres, then walk among the crowds attending the concurrent Fringe Theatre Festival, interacting with whoever wanted to ask questions or discuss the questions raised by my choice of artworks. By far the greatest response was from children, who had no concepts of good and bad taste to prevent them from enjoying the pictures."
